FLORETS

Hailing from the Eastern Townships region of Québec, Florets is an instrumental ensemble formed by Claire Leslie-Turnbull (flute), Zacharie Bachand (guitar), and Sebastien Bachand (upright bass). Reflecting the Eastern Townships’ history, the trio draws inspiration and repertoire from the French Canadian, Irish, and Scottish cultures that met in this area–traditions that happen to be perfectly mirrored in the group members’ cultural heritages. The trio arranges pieces with their own unique approach, bringing their love of classical, jazz, and folk music into conversation with the traditions that have shaped them.

FALTER

Although Claire trained as a classical flutist, she also performs as a singer-songwriter with guitar and her partner, Zacharie Bachand on pedal steel. In 2021 Claire released her first EP. Her songs focused on turning stories into folk songs about people, places, and things. She is an emerging artist, who lived in New Brunswick from 2021-2023 and used her attic as a do-it-yourself recording space. Her work began while working her way through the darkest months of 2020. These first few songs came to fruition while gazing at the lake from her partner and bandmate Zach's childhood bedroom. The songs explore the unexpected feeling of meeting someone new, the weight lifted off your shoulders after finally letting something go, and that sting in the corner of your eye when you’re really missing home.
